So whats the best way to go about getting up there in a few days time? I have done a little web research, flights can be found for just over 700 at the cheapest. How does this sound? I have no experience of travelling around China (yet). Some people suggested here before just pitching up at the airport, but maybe not at this time of year. Thanks.

well, the trains are alright as long as you don't mind long hours, but definetely get a soft bed (not a hard one or either seat) as the journey is long and the seats are way crowded and uncomfortable to boot. the buses are cramped a bit, but some of the newer sleeper buses aren't that bad. the trains and buses often leave in the evening and then you go to bed and wake up where you're going which is a nice little touch, but sometimes you don't wind up getting enough sleep... but they're much cheaper than flying.. (especially considering that the prices quoted are always one way and so round trip is double that price.. anyway it all depends on what is important to you, timing, cost, comfort.... what do you mean by " Some people suggested here before just pitching up at the airport, but maybe not at this time of year."...?

I am going to beijing around 11th, i am planning to take a train to beijing from hangzhou. the train is a Z train which means it will not stop on the way to beijing, and it is about 13hrs' ride on the train. as far as i know, it is the fastest train to beijing from here. and of course, much cheaper than by air. if u want more info, email me at jessieliaooo@hotmail.com good luck
