Dinghai has a nice old town area and a hero's park that is pleasant. Putuo Shan is worth the trip and you need at least a full day.
Dinghai you take a bus and vehicular ferry, putuoshan by ferry from laowaitan.
Putuoshn 100 rmb entry fee but make sure you go on a calm day, sometimes the ferry boats can't run if it gets too rough.
